Civilian Conservation Camps in Connecticut

History, Lore, and Legacy of the Civilian Conservation Camps in Connecticut

Author Marty Podskoch is speaking at the Cornwall Library on February 16
from 3 to 5 PM

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began on March 31, 1933 under Roosevelt's "New Deal" to relieve the poverty and unemployment of the depression. Camps were set up in many Connecticut towns, state parks, and forests. Workers built trails, roads, campsites, and dams, stocked with fish, built and maintained fire tower observer's cabins and telephone lines, fought fires, and planted millions of trees. The CCC disbanded in 1942 due to the need for men in WW II.

Author Marty Podskoch is conducting research on the Civilian Conservation Camps in the Adirondacks and Connecticut, for his next book in honor of the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the CCC. He is keenly interested in meeting folks who may have CCC stories to share
