Beyond HateSaturday Night Movie at The Library

Saturday, February 25th, 7:30 pm

The Library will be showing the documentary The Anatomy of Hate:  Beyond Hate with Bill Moyers. Join Catherine Tatge and Dominique Lasseur as they introduce their film chronicling the impact of hate on its victims.  Moyers interviews world figures such as Nelson Mandela, Jimmy Carter, Elie Wiesel as well as gang leaders and young people trying to cope with violence in their lives. There is a suggested donation of $6 per person and $10 per couple.

 

Saturday Night Movie at The Library

Saturday, March 10th, 7:30 pm

Our Saturday Night Movies Series continues with the 1963 film Billy Liar. One of the great movies of the British New Wave, it touches on the the comic and often touching fantasies of a restless young undertaker’s assistant who lives unhappily with his dull-witted parents in the dreary working-class town of Leeds. Tom Courtenay stars and Julie Christie debuts in this film directed by the imaginative John Schlesinger. There is a suggested donation of $6 per person and $10 per couple.


Marc SimontThe World of Marc Simont

Saturday, March 17th, 4 - 6 pm

Tom Walker will present an illustrated, entertaining and illuminating talk on Marc Simont’s life and accomplishments, which will be followed by a reception.  Donations will be gratefully accepted and will go towards a tree to be planted in Marc’s honor and towards the Library’s children’s program. All donations of $100 or more will receive an autographed copy of Marc’s Caldecott Medal-winning book A Tree Is Nice.

A Second Poetry "Un-Slam"

Sunday, March 18th, 2:30 - 3:30 pm

In case you missed the February session, a second Poetry “Un-Slam,” in memory of Ken Keskinen, will be held on Sunday, March 18th from 2:30 to 3:30 pm. Cornwall poets will read their own, original work for up to 3 minutes in the first round of readings. Become inspired by listening to emerging talents and established writers.  Remember, this “Un-Slam” is not a competition.

 

Saturday Night Movie at The Library

Producer Dominique Lasseur and director Catherine Tatge will be at the Library to introduce their documentary Fooling with Words with Bill Moyers. Bill Moyers captures the excitement of the Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival where thousands exult in the pure pleasure of the spoken word. The film features Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky, Coleman Barks, Stanley Kunitz, Lucille Clifton, Mark Doty and others.  This film will introduce you to the power and joy of poetry as expressed by some of the world’s foremost wordsmiths. There is a suggested donation of $6 per person and $10 per couple.
