ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Catherine Noren's photographs express her amazement and her love for the stranger-than-fiction nature of the everyday world. Her photographs are candid, shot with available light, non-manipulated. They rely for their drama on framing (she crops only in the viewfinder), what she chooses to shoot, and on the moment that she chooses to release the shutter. Her early teachers were Diane Arbus, Lisette Model, Gary Winogrand, and Jay Maisel.
She is also the author of "The Camera of My Family," whose setting is partly in Cornwall, where she spent much of her childhood. She lives in New York City and in Cornwall.
